Nordic Ribbon Stars

The perfect handmade ornament…

I made these stars last year as a last minute item to add some festive inspiration to my website. They became very popular and I made a video tutorial for them as well. This year as well as making them I made a kit so that you can make your own! The kit is available here and the video tutorial is below.

These folded Nordic stars have their roots in Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Made with 4 strips of paper traditionally, I started making them with ribbon to use as ornaments, gift toppers, or even to make a garland with. The Studio Carta ribbon included in this kit is lightly starched making it easy to work with for this type of folding.  Once you get the rhythm of making these it’s hard to stop and they look so beautiful on a tree!

Each kit includes:

  • enough pre cut ribbon to make 8 stars

  • 2 yards of both Silver and Gold metallic ribbon to use as hanging loops or a garland base.

  • a large metal darning needle

  • a link to the video tutorial for these stars!

Available in two color choices - all ivory or 2 of each color: ivory, chartreuse, sage, and blush pink.

Please note - This kit does not come with additional printed instructions

Materials you will need:

-4 x 17 inch pieces of stiff 1/2 inch wide ribbon folded in half and cut to a point on both ends. I use Studio Carta’s Loose Weave Cotton Ribbon.

-Scissors

-A large eye darning needle (#13 is the size I use)

I highly recommend learning with paper (the traditional material) first as it is less precious than your nice ribbons! 🌟Enjoy!! 🌟
